Senior Equine Veterinarian

Flemington, Victoria

Our client, is a leading statutory body for one of the premier equine sports in the country. This industry governing body is currently looking for a Senior Equine Veterinarian to lead, develop and manage its newly created equine compliance and welfare team within the integrity department.

As a Senior Veterinarian, you are passionate about equine veterinary medicine and animal health. You are a dynamic and enthusiastic person who wants to play a pivotal role in horse health and welfare. You are a strong leader that can work collaboratively with others across the industry. You build your team up and foster their commitment by setting the example with conviction and motivation. You are a critical thinker with a penchant for problem solving and decision making. You are looking for a career change into a corporate leadership role and have a track record of achieving successful outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that horse welfare practices within Victoria are within regulations
  • Oversee regulatory veterinary substance control programs at industry competitions
  • Educate and promote equine welfare “best practice” guidelines to participants
  • Manage the implementation of animal microchipping policy
  • Provide expert advice and veterinary services
  • Drive the continuous improvement of processes, policies and practices
  • Mange and build relationships within our organistation, government, external stakeholders and sport participants on issues pertaining to the sport rules, compliance with drug control regulations, equine practices and animal ethics

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Veterinary Science (post graduate in equine medicine highly desired)
  • 5 or more years as a practicing veterinarian with a focus on equine
  • Previous experience managing and developing a small team
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Current and valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel extensively
