National Sales Manager
National Sales Manager
Strategic Leadership | High-Science Biologicals | Manager of Managers role
Are you a high-calibre sales leader ready to spearhead a national commercial transformation?
We are currently working with a global leader in Animal Health that is entering its most significant innovation cycle in a generation. With fantastic pipeline of biologicals and monoclonal antibodies, our client is moving beyond traditional parasiticides to redefine the clinical standard of care in veterinary medicine.
As the National Sales Manager (NSM), you will be the driving force behind the national field organization. This is a high-impact leadership role where you will manage 1st Line Managers (RSMs) to deliver "world-class" execution across the Australian veterinary clinic environment.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Business Unit, you will bridge the gap between executive strategy and frontline clinic interactions. Your mission is to evolve the national sales force from a transactional mindset to a high-science, clinical consulting model. You will be responsible for the "coaching of coaches," ensuring that your Regional Managers are empowered to build high-performance cultures within their own teams.
Your Key Responsibilities
- National Leadership: Lead and develop a national team, including the Regional Sales Managers and their field-based sales representatives, fostering a culture of accountability, resilience, and commercial discipline.
- Strategic Execution: Translate the national commercial strategy into actionable field plans that drive market share growth for a sophisticated portfolio of specialty therapeutics.
- The "Coaching of Coaches": Personally mentor and develop Regional Sales Managers, focusing on field force effectiveness (FFE), leadership consistency, and strategic territory planning.
- Launch Excellence: Direct the national rollout of a blockbuster pipeline, ensuring the field force is technically proficient and commercially equipped to shift clinical protocols in-clinic.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the "Voice of the Field" within the senior leadership team, partnering with Marketing, Supply Chain, and Medical Affairs to optimize customer initiatives.
- Commercial Governance: Oversee national sales forecasting, budget management (OPEX), and the optimization of field incentive plans to drive desired behaviors.
What You Will Bring
- The Leadership Pedigree: A minimum of 10 years of progressive commercial experience in Pharmaceuticals, Animal Health, or Med-Tech, with a proven track record of managing people managers.
- Clinical & Commercial Balance: You understand the "science of the sale." You can translate complex biological data into a compelling commercial value proposition for veterinary practice owners.
- Transformation Expertise: Experience leading teams through organizational change or major product launches. You know how to build a high-engagement culture during "launch-phase" pressure.
- Strategic Acumen: Strong financial and operational mindset with experience managing national budgets and driving Field Force Effectiveness (FFE) metrics.
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Science, or a related field is required; an MBA or GAICD qualification is highly regarded.
Why Apply?
This is a career-defining role for a leader who thrives on transformation. You will have the unique opportunity to lead a national team through a historic pivot into biotechnology, supported by a pipeline that has no direct competition in the current market.
Travel: This is a national role requiring significant domestic travel (up to 40–50%) to support Regional Managers in-field, attend national conferences, and engage with key stakeholders.
The role is only open to those who are currently based in Australia, with full working rights. No visa sponsorships available.
